COMMUNITY DRIVEN

The Department of Gender and Race Studies is committed to examining and producing knowledge that develops research approaches to analyzing gender and race. Through its classes in African American Studies, Women’s Studies, and Sociology, the Department provides an academic environment that facilitates the critical investigation of societal processes, the assessment of institutional change, and our understanding of global citizenship. As a forum for interdisciplinary research, the Department is important to the state and region, with a nationally recognized environment of visiting speakers, public events, and workshops that address a range of topics in the disciplines of African American Studies, Women’s Studies, and Sociology.

As a Women’s Studies minor, I enjoy how interactive and personal the classes are in the GRS Department. I feel incredibly supported by the department in all of my endeavors, no matter if it involves my undergraduate studies or my future graduate studies.
